Sacred Sex and Neo Tantra

While doing research recently I came across some interesting info on www.Wikipedia.com - if you got time, have alook on Wikipedia and check out the links fo rmore info

Neotantra
Neotantra is a term used to describe the modern, western use of the word Tantra. The term refers to both the New Age and modern Western interpretations of traditional Indian and Buddhist tantra. Some of its proponents refer to ancient and traditional texts and principles[1][2], and many others use tantra as a catch-all phrase for "sacred sexuality", and may incorporate unorthodox practices. In addition, not all of the elements of Indian tantra are used in neotantric practices, in particular the reliance on a guru, guruparampara.

Tantric sexuality
As tantric practice became known in western culture—a development that started at the end of the 18th century, and that has escalated since the 1960s—it has become identified with its sexual methods. Consequently, its essential nature as spiritual practice is often overlooked. The roles of sexuality in Tantra and in Neotantra, while related, are actually quite different, reflecting substantial differences in their cultural contexts.

In Neotantra the most important features of sexual practice revolve around the experience of subtle energies within our sensual embodiment, and the accessing of these energies both to enhance pleasure and to challenge our egotism into its dissolution. Thus, tantric sexuality often cultivates ecstatic consciousness as well as increased spiritual awareness of the erotic consciousness that pervades our human embodiment as well as everything that contextualizes this embodiment.

Tantric sexual methods may be practiced solo, in partnership, or in the sacred rituals of groups. The specifics of these methods are often kept secret, and passed from practitioners to students in an oral tradition. It must be remembered that genuine tantric spiritual practice is merely one aspect of a comprehensive spiritual path of meditation—and that the sexual and erotic aspects of tantra cannot be authentically engaged in without adequate preparation and discipline.

In sum, tantric sexuality is just one dimension of a spiritual path that is devoted and dedicated to the challenge of becoming aware, in every moment of our embodied lives, of the supreme flow of the sacred lifeforce itself—the Sacred Unity of Love.

In Vajrayana Buddhism, tantric sexual practice (Sanskrit: Maithuna, cf. Tibetan:Yab-Yum) is one aspect of the last stage of the initiate's spiritual path, where s/he, having already realised the voidness of all things, attains enlightenment and perpetual bliss.[3] Within the Tibetan tradition the role of such practices has always been somewhat controversial, since they lend themselves to abuse, and is therefore often shrouded in secrecy.[4]

Practitioners
Teachers of this version of tantra frequently have the belief that sex and sexual experiences are a sacred act[5] which is capable of elevating its participants to a higher spiritual plane. They often talk about raising Kundalini energy[6][7], worshiping the divine feminine, activating the chakras[8], and experiencing full-body orgasms. The word "tantra," in this context, often refers to the set of techniques for cultivating a more fulfilling sexual or love relationship. On the other hand, there are also some truly dedicated scholars and teachers in the field of modern tantra.

Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, later known as Osho, used his version of tantra in combination with breathing techniques, bio-energy, yoga and massage in some of the groups at his ashram. He is the author of many books on meditation, taoism, buddhism and mysticism, and at least six on tantra. One of them is Tantra, The Supreme Understanding, in which he unpacks the verses of the Song of Mahamudra, by Tilopa. In addition out of his discourses on the Vigyan Bhiarav (or Vijnaya-bhairava), the 112 practices for enlightenment[9] resulted in the much longer 'The Book of Secrets'.

His students continue to develop his concepts. One of his students is Margot Anand, who founded a school called "Skydancing" tantra. She is the author of dozens of books including the Art of Everyday Ecstasy and the Art of Sexual Magic.

Another modern tantrika is Daniel Odier who believes that Desire can be a valid pathway to transcendence[10]. He has translated and interpreted the yoga spandakarika, and has written books on tantra, buddhism, kashmiri shaivism, and meditation.

[edit] Criticisms and misuse
Unfortunately, the word tantra is often misused by sex workers to embelish their practice, and is just a thin veil over what is basically prostitution. In less extreme cases the practices are improperly advertised as tantra when in fact they are at best "sexual education."

Georg Feuerstein, a Buddhist who also trained in Hindu Tantra, writes in the epilogue of his book Tantra: Path of Ecstasy:

"Many are attracted to Neo-Tantrism because it promises sexual excitement or fulfillment while clothing purely genital impulses or neurotic emotional needs in an aura of spirituality. If we knew more about the history of Tantra in India, we would no doubt find a comparable situation for every generation." He goes on to say, "Today translations of several major Tantras are readily available in book form... This gives would-be Tantrics the opportunity to concoct their own idiosyncratic ceremonies and philosophies, which they can then promote as Tantra."[11]

Taoist Massage

Yes, we will be introducing Taoist Massage soon at Shakti Gardens. This is a wonderful gentle healing modality, it involves raising certain energies, it also develops a new deeper awareness of your healing process and your awakening.

Traditionally Taoist Massage is done on the floor. A soft matress is used, then covered with sheets or a large duvet, some clients enjoy having lit candles around the workspace for clearing energies, others enjoy having a crystal grid around the perimeter of the workspace. Healing always begins by working on the front of the body, concentrating on raising energies, creating a calmness within the client and assisting them with breathwork. From there on, the client turns over and the rest of the body work continues, focussing on Meridians, Chakras, easing tension and so forth. Once the backwork is complete the client will then turn over again so the healing process and continue and be completed on the front of the body.

All parts of mind, body and spirit are intergrated, energies raised, and a new awreness of the deep inner Goddess realised and brought forth.

Taoist massage can be a very personal journey into the realm of sensual healing

A complete article will follow soon and be posted on the website

New events being planned

With Tantra or any other healing, we need to continually evolve and grow, to find new methods and teachings!

I have been talking to other healer and teachers to see what we can do with exciting future events.

One project will be a series of Tantra Workshops, the other is to go out and enjoy the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice Festivals.

Tantra Workshops:
These workshops will comprise of 3 modules and will be hosted in the Tantra Lounge at Shakti Gardens over a period of 3 weeks. We will need an equal number of male and female participants. Some of the subjects will include "Entering the Sacred Body", "Surender into Bliss", "Awakening Chakras & Breathwork". For some, we might be pushing boundaries, but be assured, that you will be in a safe secure loving environment, with support from all involved in these workshops. You will be able to explore your desires, release your fears, and awaken the dormant feelings of sensuality and sexuality, we want you to experience a new awakening! SOme of the workshops will include bodywork, Skyclad Dance Meditations, Yoni and Lingham Meditations and Group Touch Sensitivity.

Come celebrate and explore the Sacred Body!

Please contact us if you wish to have more information or to reserve your place on this wonderful journey, couples and singles are welcome.

Spring Equinox & Summer Solstice
Discussions have already taken place for prelimenary plans for these two celebrations. we are also currently looking for a suitable venue with a densely wooded area. This will be a day/night outing, we will gather at a pre-arranged venue, where you will receive a gift package, and then we take a short walk to our destination. Learned guest speakers will guide us in arts/crafts, teach us and enlighten us with regards to ancients rites, in the early evening we will form a drum circle around a log fire and then just dance (Skyclad if you wish)and celebrate (our senses and the gifts of nature) into the night under a full moon.

We would appreciate any feedback and suggestions from you, in assisting us in setting up these wonderful celebrations and workshops. Just e-mail or call if you wish to book your place now for the Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice Celebrations now.

Be blessed

What happens down there is all up here!

I came across this article on the Harmonious Living website (www.harmoniousliving.co.za) - it is very interesting, especially what he has to say about Viagra etc. Please read or share this with your beloved.

What happens down there is all up here!
Joseph Mercola

Sexual desire and orgasm are far from simple issues that can be resolved by taking hormones or popping a pill that will turn your world into varying shades of blue. There are a host of influences on your brain and nervous system that control your sex glands and genitals, and some of those influences are your very thoughts themselves.

Anxiety, defensiveness, fear, and failure of communication are destructive psychological forces that can take a heavy toll on your libido, whether you’re a man or a woman, by acting as road blocks to desire.

It All Starts in Your Brain
Every erection begins in your brain. Your brain stem emits nerve impulses that control erectile function. These nerve impulses navigate through the erection centre of your spinal column to the erectile tissue of your penis, where they trigger a chain reaction in the membranes of your vascular muscle cells. This sophisticated chain reaction is dependent on a messenger molecule called cyclic guanosine monophosphate, or cGMP.

However, this works in reverse as well; an erection softens as soon as another enzyme called phosphodiesterase starts to degrade the cGMP molecules.

Drugs like Viagra, Levitra and Cialis, work by inhibiting phosphodiesterase, which may help maintain your erection. But, these pills will not create an erection in and of themselves. Your initial erection still has to be triggered psychologically. Without that initial impetus, potency pills will have no effect whatsoever.

This is also why these pills are ineffective for many men who take them hoping for a magic jack-in-the-box effect.

Bigger, Better, Longer, Stronger – The Myths That Make Reality Shrivel
The pressures of “performance and potency” themselves are a large contributor to impotence, and this theme is pushed continually in advertising, whether related to sexual potency drugs or the latest razor.

Studies by sexual psychologist and popular author Bernie Zilbergeld have shown that most men with potency problems believe in these advertised myths. Zilbergeld also pointed out that many of these men engage in what he called “spectatoring”, in which the man gets stuck in observing and assessing the sexual situation as if he’s an outsider, rating the woman’s expectations and what he can deliver.

And then there’s stress. But it’s not necessarily the type of stress typically portrayed by the media. Turns out the problem is rarely the work stress itself, but rather it’s a transference of work performance standards to your sex life. Approaching your sex life with that same attitude; feeling pressured to perform to certain standards, can turn the act of love into another gruelling task that must be completed, and completed well.

Scientific Research is Not Altruistic
Research into the mechanics of your love life is not done for some altruistic purpose. Scientists don’t necessarily care about figuring this out in order to help you understand yourself better and improve your life. This research is done to create medications that act on your nervous system to stimulate desire, which, I believe is a travesty to love itself.

Instead of dealing with your emotional and psychological issues that are blocking you from connecting with and feeling desire for your partner, you may soon be able to take a pill that removes the very act of needing to feel anything.

One such experimental compound already under development is a peptide called bremelanotide. It works by blocking receptors in your brain that are involved in regulating basic drives such as eating and sex. In human studies bremelanotide has triggered spontaneous erections in men, and boosted sexual arousal and desire in women.

Side effects? Rising blood pressure, for starters.

As convenient as these drugs may appear, impotence drugs contribute to infertility, heart problems and can even blind you. And taking synthetic hormones in hopes of putting the spring back into your step causes all sorts of terrible health problems too.

Getting Your Sex Life Back on Track the Natural Way
Did you know that boosting your sex drive may be as easy as cutting out sugar?

According to a study published last year in the Journal of Clinical Investigation, high levels of sugar in your bloodstream can turn off the gene that controls your sex hormones.

Simple sugars (glucose and fructose), are metabolised in your liver, with the excess stored as fat lipids. Excess fat synthesis in turn deactivates your SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) gene, causing your levels of SHBG protein to drop dramatically, and it is this SHBG protein that controls your testosterone and estrogen levels. As you can see, there’s no end to the negative health ramifications of eating too much sugar!

Other ways to help get your sex life back on track (and improve your health as a happy side effect!) include these natural alternatives to treating sexual dysfunction:

The neurotransmitter that triggers the sexual message, in both men and women, is acetylcholine (ACH). With too little ACH, sexual activity goes down. One way to safely and effectively enhance ACH levels in your body is to take choline supplements (1000 to 3000 mg) and vitamin B5 (500 to 1500 mg).
Studies have shown active men who engage in regular physical activity lowered their risk of experiencing sexual dysfunction. So start an exercise program guys! Remember, when using exercise as a drug, it’s important to set a goal of 60 to 90 minutes per day, every day. Obviously, depending on your current condition, you may need to work slowly up to this level.
Optimise your diet based on your body's unique nutritional type. We each have a unique nutritional type with varying demands for the ratios of macronutrients (fats, proteins and carbohydrates) to function optimally. This is why you may respond well to a low-carb diet while your friend on the same exact diet might not.
Because sexual dysfunction can worsen due to stress and anxiety, take control of your emotions by learning the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). EFT is a psychological acupressure technique that can help you effectively address your stress-related thoughts and leave you feeling calmer and more able to face your challenges, whatever they may be.

Erogenous Zones

When doing Tantric Sensual Healing Massage, or Tantric/Taoist Sexual Energy Massage, we work on stirring different Chakras, as well as stirring the sensual and sexual energies that have been lying dormant for so long. Among the many different techniques we utilize in this awakening process, the one that is very important is finding and pointing out the erogenous zones. These are gently stimulated and awakened. The soft fleshy part behind the knees is an important erogenous zone in Taoist Sexual Energy Massage, as well as the nape of the neck. This is gently massaged up towards the base of the skull. When the client is on her back, I gently hold her head to one side and massage the ears and the neck, then softly "comb" her hair by dragging my fingers through. This creates a gentle stirring and awakening of the senses.

For some, their erogenous zones might be ultra sensitive, yet others might find that those particular spots are not that sensitive to them. Everyone is unique, with different levels of arousal. Someone might enjoy gentle strokes on her lower back, yet another will prefer her neck gently massaged. Sometimes we uncover erogenous zones that they never knew existed. An erogenous zone is usually on a part of the body that is nowhere near the usually sexually stimulated areas (such as genitals or breasts). By using gentle pressure, or soft brush strokes with finger tips on an erogenous zone will cause a tingling sensation, might produce "goose-bumps" or even create a sensation of an energy shift. It heightens pleasure, it is a "feel good" sensation.

So sit back and enjoy, let your loved one explore and find those special places, let them play with your erogenous zones so you can surrender into Bliss and enjoy the ecstacy.
